Avilanian Teenagers Explore Artificial Intelligence

Female engineers and technicians from the Territorial Division of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (Etecsa) in Ciego de Ávila are strengthening knowledge of responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) use among new generations of women.

This was demonstrated by a meeting held by Etecsa specialists and a group of eighth-grade students from the Clotilde Agüero educational institution in the Avilanian territory, all members of the «Future Telecommunicators» Interest Circle.

Engineer Fabianne Torres Marrero explained that during the session, the teenagers learned about the most common uses of Artificial Intelligence, from supporting their studies to everyday applications. But beyond practical uses, the aim was to sow professional interests and show them that technology is also a path for them.

Reinel Sergio Luna Pérez, head of the Marketing and Communication Group of Etecsa in the province, assured that in a world where a gender gap still persists in careers such as programming or engineering, initiatives like this help break down myths and build female role models from an early age.

Beyond technical concepts, the activity sought to sow vocations and motivate the teenagers to consider the technology sector as a real possibility for professional development.

The meeting was part of the International Girls in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Day, celebrated every fourth Thursday of April, established to close the digital gender gap.

This year’s celebration, dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, is an opportunity to continue efforts in this struggle.
