Workers from Ciego de Ávila’s Raw Materials Recovery Enterprise (ERMP) are marking Cuba’s Day of National Rebellion with pride, having achieved remarkable economic performance while contributing to the province’s socioeconomic development through multiple initiatives.
During an interview with the Cuban News Agency, ERMP Director Manuel Rieche González highlighted the enterprise’s first-half sales exceeding targets by generating nearly 170 million pesos through recycling paper, cardboard, glass, plastics, metals and electronic waste. Their operations have supplied critical raw materials to domestic industries while successfully exporting bronze, copper, aluminum, stainless steel and e-waste.
The enterprise’s 298 employees across 11 municipal units – including the Jardines del Rey tourist destination – maintain strong recovery volumes. Through an innovative financial model, workers now earn average monthly salaries exceeding 7,000 pesos while the company acquires necessary equipment, improving overall stability.
At their specialized Electronic Waste Recovery facility, workers receive, decontaminate, dismantle and classify electronics – primarily from northern cays – with this stream becoming a top export category. The unit also repairs and refurbishes appliances for affordable resale, implementing circular economy principles.
Strategic collaborations include supplying the Juan Antonio Márquez Fraga Brush and Plastic Goods Enterprise to reduce import needs, while providing materials to the local Plastics Florencia project for agricultural irrigation hose production. Workers have also supported provincial solar park installations using company cranes.
Beyond economic targets, employees have repaired two family doctor clinics, assisted vulnerable families, conducted sanitation campaigns, and sponsor both a nearby primary school and the Gastroenterology Ward at Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Hospital through restoration work and ongoing activities.
«The ERMP has participated in every political and administrative initiative,» stated Rieche González, noting the team’s consistent award-winning performance in Moncada anniversary emulation contests. Their excellence contributed to Ciego de Ávila’s selection as host for the 72nd anniversary commemorations of the revolutionary attacks on Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks.
The enterprise’s comprehensive performance demonstrates how Cuba’s recycling sector simultaneously advances economic, environmental and social priorities while honoring the nation’s revolutionary traditions through concrete achievements.
