Tradition and modernity crackled in an unprecedented artistic duel during the second day of the 2025 Arte en la Rampa Cuban Culture Fair, where repentismo (Cuban improvisational verse) demonstrated its relevance against urban freestyle.
The central stage of Pabellón Cuba, national headquarters of the AHS (Hermanos Saíz Association), witnessed a high-voltage battle between improvisers. On one side, freestylers Royal (Matanzas) and Anthony Bravo (Havana); on the other, repentistas Marcos David Fernández Brunet «El Kíkere» (Cienfuegos) and Rainer Nodal (Ciego de Ávila).
After a fiercely contested and vibrant performance, the audience – serving as both judge and protagonist – decided: repentismo triumphed! The fusion of traditional décimas with urban flow created a unique spectacle, celebrated by attendees and artists alike.
The Avilanian branch of AHS, present at the event, highlighted the importance of such spaces for reclaiming Cuban roots through contemporary forms, where culture did not compete but rather enriched itself.
