A tribute to José Martí in the schools of Ciego de Avila

The homage to José Martí is multiplying these days in the educational institutions of Ciego de Ávila, where students take part in workshops, exhibitions, special matinees and, most enjoyed by the children, the dramatisations of stories from the book La Edad Oro (The Golden Age).

Gladys Ruiz Marrero, deputy director of Education in the Avila territory, reported that students and teachers visit museums and the Brigadier José Ambrosio Gómez Cardoso Provincial Historical Archive, where they delve into the essence of the Martians, those that constitute an important basis for the safeguarding of the nation.

In this sense, he added, at the Basic Secondary and Pre-University levels, the activities are aimed at reviewing the teachings bequeathed by the master Rafael María de Mendive to his disciples, an influence that led some of them to rise up against Spain and the most brilliant to write, at only 16 years of age, that the love of the homeland is the invincible hatred of those who oppress it.

The laying of wreaths, the beautification of Marti’s forests and the work in the school gardens are part of the tribute to Cuba’s National Hero in this province, on the occasion of the 28th of January, the 172nd anniversary of his birth.

The students of Avila’s Basic Secondary and Pre-University will participate in the March of the Torches, while the youngest students will close the tribute to the Apostle with the Martiano parade, in which they will fill the streets dressed in the costumes of the Cuban National Hero.
