A tribute to José Martí in Ciego de Avila’s schools

The homage to José Martí is multiplying these days in the educational institutions of Ciego de Ávila, where students take part in workshops, exhibitions, special matinees and, most enjoyed by the little ones, dramatisations of stories from the book La Edad de Oro (The Golden Age).

Gladys Ruiz Marrero, deputy director of Education in the Avila territory, reported that students and teachers visit museums and the Brigadier José Ambrosio Gómez Cardoso Provincial Historical Archive, where they delve into the essence of the Martians, those that constitute an important basis for the safeguarding of the nation.

At the Basic Secondary and Pre-University levels, the activities are aimed at reviewing the teachings bequeathed by the master Rafael María de Mendive to his disciples, an influence that led some of them to rise up against Spain and the most brilliant to write, at the age of 16, that the love of the homeland is the invincible hatred of those who oppress it.

The laying of wreaths, the beautification of Marti’s forests and the work in the school gardens are part of the tribute to Cuba’s National Hero in this province, on the occasion of today, May 19th, the 130th anniversary of his fall in combat.
