The death toll in Colombia rose to 111, while the number of injured stands at 87, following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred today, according to a report released by the National Government.

From the Unified Command Post (PMU) set up after the emergency, President Abelardo de la Espriella also reported that, to date, there are 1,575 damaged homes, 37 destroyed homes, 61 collapsed buildings, as well as 18 health centres and 52 educational centres with damage.

Other losses include 17 affected community centres, 18 roads and six airports, one of which reported damage to its runway.

The head of state stated that the priority is to rescue people still trapped under the rubble.

The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) reported that after the tremor, which occurred at 7:34 local time, more than 20 aftershocks were recorded.

The Colombian Association of Capital Cities reported that Pereira, Cali, Manizales, Quibdó and Armenia concentrate the most critical situations, with fatalities, injured and trapped people, structural collapses, and damage to hospital infrastructure, airports, public services and transport systems.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Police reported total closures and restricted passages on different road corridors in Caldas, Tolima, Quindío and Valle del Cauca.

The National Government issued a national disaster declaration, which will allow for the strengthening of mobilisation and coordination of institutional capacities to address the emergency.
