Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Politburo and Organisation Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, highlighted today on his Facebook profile the celebration of the Romerías de Mayo as an example of cultural resistance in the face of a hostile context.
«Despite a hostile context marked by the collective punishment of an entire people and permanent external threats, the Romerías de Mayo stand as a tangible example of how rationality and collective initiative can flourish amidst adversity,» Morales Ojeda stressed.
The leader underlined that the scarcity of resources did not become an excuse for passivity, but rather a stimulus for collaborative creation, artistic recycling and local management of cultural projects, demonstrating the vitality of Cuban youth.
«Every friend from around the world who joins, every song and every initiative is born from popular ingenuity, showing that the imposed siege cannot inhibit the vitality of a youth that thinks, proposes and builds for itself,» he stated on the social network.
Morales Ojeda highlighted that in each edition, the Romerías de Mayo are filled with young people overflowing with joy, commitment and hope, qualities that defy any fatalistic forecast and turn the event into a celebration for peace.
The Romerías de Mayo constitute a cultural and traditional celebration held in Holguín at the start of May each year, conceived as a gathering of artistic and popular youth.
Its essence combines the religious and the profane, reviving the colonial custom of processing up to the Loma de la Cruz, while becoming a contemporary festival of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and thought.
This space for international exchange reaffirms Cuban identity, historical memory and the creative vitality of new generations, where tradition and modernity are linked in the same festive spirit.
