Allegations about Medicare Are Another Slander Against Cuba

Recent statements by officials of the United States Government speculate, without any evidence, that the Government of Cuba could be involved in fraud against the US healthcare programme Medicare, in southern Florida. This is another slander promoted by anti-Cuban sectors in that country.

Cuba has a firm position of rejection of this and other transnational crimes. This is well known to the United States Government, which has exchanged and coordinated joint actions with the Cuban government on terrorism, judicial assistance, trade security, illicit drug trafficking, migrant smuggling and immigration fraud, cybercrimes, money laundering and financial crimes; although, as a rule, there has been no reciprocal conduct on the part of US authorities.

Cuba has prosecuted individuals who reside in the national territory and have been linked to US Medicare fraud. Likewise, through bilateral mechanisms, the Cuban authorities have shared with and requested from the United States information on individuals associated with financial crimes and have requested assistance for the return of Cuban citizens residing in that country who evaded Cuban laws and are accused of contraventions of this type.

The United States Government officials cited for this slander are knowingly distorting the truth.

The Government of Cuba reiterates its willingness to jointly confront transnational crimes originating in the US through the timely exchange of information.
