Commitment and Excellence in Avilanian Pedagogical Training

The fifteenth anniversary of pedagogical training in Ciego de Ávila province – with over 3,190 graduates, including 222 from the current academic year – prompted celebrations today at the Raúl Corrales Fornos Pedagogical School in the provincial capital.

Gilmé Sánchez Cordero, Head of Pedagogical Training, Professional Development, and Scientific Activity at the Avilanian General Directorate of Education, emphasised that this initiative marked a milestone in the region’s and nation’s educational history. The commemoration acknowledges a trajectory of sustained effort, achievements, and unwavering commitment to quality education.

She recalled that pedagogical schools reopened during the 2010-2011 academic year to train new educators essential for enhancing the teaching-learning process. This fulfilled Party agreements aimed at elevating the quality and rigour of teacher training and professional development.

Sánchez Cordero underscored that this programme has been a beacon of hope and a fundamental pillar in preparing teachers and students who positively impact classrooms across diverse communities.

Transformations have been observed in vocation-driven youth who, motivated by a desire to teach and learn, find space to develop professional skills and grow personally and socially.

At the Raúl Corrales Fornos, Rafael Simón Morales González, and Armando Mestre Martínez pedagogical schools, future educators receive comprehensive training combining theory and practice. This prepares them to confront contemporary classroom challenges and adapt to transformations within the educational system and evolving societal demands.

Pedagogical training has also promoted a culture of innovation and creativity, she stressed.

The success of a study programme integrating theoretical and practical activities is widely recognised. It fosters community engagement and benefits from support by Party and Government authorities, enhancing commitment and excellence.

Alongside the anniversary celebrations, a graduation ceremony honoured 222 students from pedagogical training schools. They will join educational institutions across various levels during the 2025-2026 academic year.

During the twelfth graduation, pioneering teachers and administrators of Avilanian pedagogical training were recognised. Special tribute was paid to Bismark Salaber Varela and Marta Nidia Rodríguez Martínez, former principals of the Rafael Simón Morales González and Raúl Corrales Fornos schools, respectively.

Additionally, awards were given to teachers with uninterrupted service in this field, the 18 most well-rounded graduates by specialisation, and the top graduates of the current academic period.

The occasion also served to commemorate the upcoming 72nd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks on 26 July – National Rebellion Day – with Ciego de Ávila hosting this year’s central commemorations.
