Cuban Parliament Debates Key Agenda Ahead of Sessions

The Permanent Commissions of the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) continue today debating and analysing pivotal issues for Cuban society, prior to the Fifth Session of the Tenth Legislature commencing tomorrow.

During today’s proceedings, deputies will evaluate fulfilment of the Government Plan’s objectives to correct economic distortions and revitalise the economy across multiple sectors.

The Economic Affairs Commission will brief legislators on the management, control, and allocation mechanism for foreign exchange and the exchange market.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Environment will review progress of the Third Education Enhancement Programme and the Values Formation Programme.

Deputies will also examine the implementation schedule for Cuba’s digital transformation policy, digital agenda, and artificial intelligence utilisation strategy.

Today’s agenda additionally includes the presentation and analysis of rulings on draft laws concerning the General Regime for Administrative Contraventions and Sanctions; the Civil Registry Law; the Cuban Sports System Law; and the Code for Children, Adolescence and Youth.

Over 80 current national issues will be debated by deputies today as a prelude to the Fifth Ordinary Session of the Tenth Legislature, beginning Wednesday.

Yesterday, President Miguel Díaz-Canel stressed in committee meetings that addressing Cuba’s economic challenges requires «transforming our approach».

In this regard, he insisted on «increasing national production and ensuring our products become competitive; otherwise, we cannot integrate into other markets».

Díaz-Canel affirmed the necessity of cultivating a culture of shared-benefit business ventures, where investment returns are equitably guaranteed for all parties involved.
