Chambas, on the road to food sovereignty

Collectives belonging to the Basic Business Units (UEB) of the Agro-industrial Company of the municipality of Chambas have shown profits so far this year by over-fulfilling their plans for the production of milk, meat, rice and various other crops.

Among the 17 UEBs that complement the agricultural development of the territory are the Cooperativa de Producción Agropecuaria (CPA) Delfín Luis Paz and the Cooperativa de Crédito y Servicios (CCS) Ignacio Agramonte, both in the municipality of Mabuya.

In the case of the CPA Delfín Luis Paz, it contributed 9080 litres, which represents 105 per cent, and the Unidad Básica de Producción Cooperativa La Nenita with 21,861 litres for 104 per cent, destined for the dairy industry and social consumption. In addition to these, the meat plan was over-fulfilled with 158 per cent of the national balance.

According to Nivaldo Chinea Espinosa, chief specialist of various crops of the Chambas Agroindustrial Company, due to these results Chambas is the municipality that contributes the most to the provincial balance, and at the same time he emphasised that with this new category the projections of work, commercialisation and production are increased, and work is done in collaboration with other entities, all in favour of food sovereignty.

Chinea Espinosa added the satisfaction of having a new line for the production of charcoal for export, which generates income in foreign currency for the company, which is invested in the acquisition of inputs, parts and pieces for machinery and transport, among other resources, vital to strengthen production in their units.
