The Young Communist League (UJC) and the Federation of University Students (FEU) in Ciego de Avila are calling for participation this January 27th in the traditional March of the Torches, on the occasion of the 172nd anniversary of the birth of José Martí.
Naily Machado Álvarez, first secretary of the UJC in the province, reported that the rally is scheduled for six o’clock in the afternoon at the intersection of Máximo Gómez and Simón Reyes streets in Ciego de Ávila.
In the walk to Camilo Cienfuegos Square in the capital city, students, workers and people in general will raise their voices to ratify their support for the Revolution and their commitment to uphold the legacy of Martí and Fidel.
The first March of the Torches by university students descended the steps to the Martí Forge at midnight on 27 January 1953 to await the arrival of the centenary of the birth of the Apostle. Inside, a column of 300 men was commanded by Fidel Castro Ruz.
