The US government is stepping up its efforts today to meet President Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda by increasing federal staff and resources to achieve his goal.
Under the plans, the administration aims to triple the number of daily immigration arrests, signalling a renewed push to go much further, according to local media reports.
Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff at the executive mansion, told Fox News on Wednesday that the administration is pushing Immigration and Customs Enforcement to make «a minimum» of 3,000 arrests a day, an unprecedented increase in immigration enforcement.
The next day, in another interview, but with CBS News, the executive mansion’s «border czar» Tom Homan confirmed that he wants to «dramatically increase» arrests and argued that the goal of 3,000 arrests a day is achievable.
«The numbers are good… They’re much better than the Biden administration. But they are not enough,» he said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is notifying more than 500 «sanctuary jurisdictions» across the United States that the Trump administration considers an obstacle to enforcing immigration laws.
The DHS released a list of the jurisdictions the day before and said each will receive a formal notice that the government has determined they are not in compliance and if they are believed to be in violation of any federal criminal law.
For DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, «these sanctuary city politicians are endangering Americans and our law enforcement in order to protect criminal (and) violent illegal aliens».
