The Nicaraguan National Assembly (Parliament) today continues the process of discussion and approval of the partial reform of the Constitution, which aims to modernise and update the state to guarantee new times of security and prosperity.
According to information released by the legislature, this day the Nicaraguan deputies will approve the titles referring to the political and administrative division, as well as the supremacy of the Constitution, its reform and constitutional laws.
The day before, in plenary session, the parliamentarians approved the title of the Political Constitution referring to the Organisation of the State, in which the revolutionary model of this Central American nation is deepened.
«Power resides in the people, and is exercised through direct democracy and the protagonism of the individual, the family and the community,» the approved article stresses.
According to what is known, this title contains the articles that establish the functioning of the state entities and powers of the state, and it is made clear that the Presidency of the Republic is the Head of State and Government.
The first vice-president of the Parliament, Arling Alonso, said that it was with the triumph of the Sandinista Popular Revolution in 1979 that the revolutionary state emerged, which was enshrined in the 1987 constitution.
The deputy pointed out that in this second stage of the Revolution, with the government headed by President Daniel Ortega and Vice-President Rosario Murillo, the positive aspects raised in the original reform were taken up again in the constitution, «but with these reforms we are taking it further».
According to the legislator, Nicaraguans have decided that the state has been restructured under a revolutionary model that has restored the rights of the people.
«The same model that has managed to reduce poverty and is the same model that has given us back our dignity, our identity and the pride of being Nicaraguan,» said Alonso.
