The Great Wetland minimises the effects caused by excess rainfall

The large wetland in the north of Ciego de Avila, a Ramsar site since 2002, offers the municipality of Morón the possibility of assimilating the floods produced by rainfall, thus contributing to minimising the effects caused by excess water in different areas of the territory.

These intrinsic characteristics, fundamentally related to the hydrological prevalence, allow for an adequate balance of the aquifer and the correct use of water for the benefit of key sectors such as agriculture.

The ecosystem, which in addition to Morón includes the municipalities of Chambas, Primero de Enero and Bolivia, constitutes an important source of primary production with direct influence on the habitat of numerous species, both migratory and autochthonous.

It also highlights the insertion of decisive processes for the country’s economy, such as tourism development, with the Jardines del Rey destination as a key element and with proven results. (Redacción Informativa R.M)
