The young Sri Lankan Sonal Madhuwantha Subasinghe Mudiyanselage expressed his satisfaction today at having the opportunity to study medicine in Cuba.
Subasinghe Mudiyanselage conveyed his gratitude during a meeting with Ambassador Andrés González at the Cuban mission in Colombo.
The Sri Lankan student will soon travel to the Caribbean nation to begin his training in September at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM).
Subasinghe Mudiyanselage was selected as part of a scholarship programme that Cuba offers to the South Asian island, stemming from the ties between the two countries, whose diplomatic relations mark 66 years this Wednesday.
Currently, other Sri Lankan students are enrolled at the Latin American School of Medicine, a university that forms part of Cuba’s Comprehensive Health Programme and hosts young people from countries in the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, the diplomatic source recalled.
Sri Lanka counts more than 100 graduates from Cuban institutions in fields related to computing, sports, engineering, medicine, and others.
