Sheinbaum reaffirms commitment to the people of Mexico

President Claudia Sheinbaum today reaffirmed the continuity of the process of transformation of public life initiated in 2018 by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the commitment to never betray the people of Mexico.

«Let it be heard well, far and loud: we will not return to the neoliberal model, we will not return to the regime of corruption and privileges, we will not let the decadence of the past return, where we governed for a few,» said the dignitary in a crowded Zócalo in the capital.

Presenting her report on her first 100 days in office to citizens on Sunday, Sheinbaum assured that her administration will continue with «Mexican humanism and with the maxim ‘For the good of all, first the poor'».

«I insist: some people wanted us not to fulfil our commitment, I don’t know what they expected. I don’t know what they expected: that I would say one thing and then act differently, that I would make a campaign commitment to the people and then betray them? Well, they’re going to get what they want,» he warned.

«Because we, those of us who have our word, those of us who don’t lie, those of us who don’t steal, are not like them.

«We are far from hypocrisy, we do not betray our principles, we do not betray our history, we do not betray our flag and we will never betray the people of Mexico,» he asserted.

During the first 100 days of his term in office, he said, he travelled 32,449 kilometres by land and air and held meetings with representatives of the administrations of the states to define together the next strategic projects.

He stressed that the foundations and the basis of the process of change (known as the Fourth Transformation) were laid by López Obrador, whom he defined as the best president, and explained that the government he heads is responsible for consolidating, adding and moving forward with the first floor of this work.

She also made a clarification to «those who think that women do not have their own initiative, that others think for us, to those who say that women do not govern because we do not have the capacity or intelligence, to those who believe that president is written with an ‘e'».

«We say to them: just as we run a home, just as we are mothers and grandmothers, we also have the strength, the fortitude, the mettle and the ability to be firefighters, engineers, astronauts, doctors, lawyers and supreme commanders of the armed forces,» she emphasised.

In her opinion, discrimination, racism, classism and machismo are vestiges of the past.

«Mexico is changing for the better. Even those who are stuck in yesterday know that. We are living in exceptional, unique, extraordinary times, because it is a time of transformation and a time for women,» she stressed.

The dignitary completed her time at the helm of the country last Wednesday with a high level of public approval (between 77 and 80 percent, according to the most renowned pollsters).
