Despite actions by the Provincial Road Safety Commission in Ciego de Ávila aimed at eliminating traffic accident causes, hazardous conditions on Avilanian roads have intensified.
Sonia Hernández Talavera, principal specialist of this body, confirmed this trend, specifying that 91 such incidents occurred between January and July 2025 – exceeding figures from the same period last year.
During this timeframe, the territory witnessed four major or severe-consequence accidents resulting in 32 fatalities and 123 injuries.
Among primary accident causes in these first seven months, Hernández Talavera cited improper overtaking, loss of vehicle control, and speeding.
Regarding municipalities with highest accident rates, she indicated over 70 percent of incidents, fatalities and injuries concentrated in Ciego de Ávila, Morón and Majagua, in that order.
The principal specialist of the Provincial Road Safety Commission stated that operations continue on roadways, including supervision of summer destination transport and alcohol testing at designated checkpoints.
