Restoration and Rehabilitation Work Commences at Ciego de Ávila’s Teatro Principal

After a five-year wait, Avilanians observed the stripping away of the old roofing and walls of the nonagenarian Teatro Principal de Ciego de Ávila on Thursday, 26 June.

Entities involved in this rehabilitation and restoration include those from Culture, Heritage, Tecnoescena, and the Basic Construction Unit of ECOT Cayo Coco, among others.

Engineer Alejandro Ochoa Rodríguez, director of said unit, explained that the initial stage involves partial construction work to prepare the renowned cultural institution for hosting the gala celebrating 26 July, Cuba’s National Rebellion Day.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, Politburo Member and Secretary of Organisation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), visited the Avilanian Teatro Principal – a local architectural jewel designated a Local Monument by the National Heritage Council in 2001. He was accompanied by the territory’s highest political and governmental authorities.
