The workers of the Unidad Empresarial de Base Vías y Puentes Eddy Soria Villa and Alexander Hernández Quintana were recognised by the management of this company, and government and party officials in the municipality of Florencia, for their outstanding work in the repair of three bridges on the northern line of Ciego de Ávila.

Located at kilometres 117,142, 11,910 and 122,462, the work began in the last quarter of last year, according to statements by Orelvis Ramírez, director of the company, which belongs to the Cuban Railway Union (UFC).
«The construction work is made difficult by the irregularities of the terrain and the height of the bridges, which implies greater concentration to avoid incidents that put the personnel at risk,» he said.

In this sense, Dennis Castañeda Núñez, deputy director of the UFC in the province of Avila, reported that each bridge was worked on a perimeter of 200 meters (m) in the change of sleepers and alignment of the tracks, actions that ensure their safety and trafficability.

He explained that these repairs benefit the circulation of trains from Ciego de Avila to the destinations of Villa Clara and Nuevitas, which make stops in municipalities and intermediate stretches, which is why they are so much in demand by passengers.

He pointed out that, at the moment, the lack of fuel and lubricant prevents these means of transport from leaving, but once this problem has been solved, the usual routes on the now repaired northern line will begin to run.
