The Construction Materials Company of Ciego de Ávila (Avilmat) is preparing to be the centre of an important exercise in participatory democracy: the consultation assembly for the Draft Bill of the new Labour Code, which will begin next Monday, 8th September, simultaneously across the entire country.
This process, which will extend to all work collectives, has the fundamental objective of enriching the legislative document with the opinions, judgements and suggestions of Avilanian workers.
The assembly to be held at Avilmat will see the participation of 60 workers. This initial encounter will serve as a pilot session to organise and perfect the subsequent development of the process in the rest of the province’s work centres.
The authorities highlight that this process of collective discussion is a crucial stage for the elaboration of a modern and protective law, which responds to the current realities and needs of the Cuban economic and social model. They also underline that the conscious and active participation of all workers is fundamental to achieving a consensus that benefits the greatest number of people.
