New Professionals Strengthen the Avilanian Health Sector

More than three hundred young people from the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Stomatology, Health Technology and Higher Technical Certificate programmes celebrated the awarding of their titles, in a ceremony where the University of Medical Sciences once again received, for the third consecutive year, the Provincial Condition «Latir Avileño».

The Cuban national health system places a great responsibility on its students: to participate actively in teaching, care and social impact tasks, pillars of the humanist vocation that underpins medical training in the country. Conscious of this commitment, the young people assume their role as protagonists of health development in the province.

Dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the 80th anniversary of his enrolment in the Law degree at the University of Havana and the twentieth anniversary of the Mario Muñoz Monroy Vanguard Movement, the ceremony in Ciego de Ávila welcomed a new generation of the army of white coats.

A total of 215 graduates from the José Assef Yara Faculty, in the head municipality, received the diplomas accrediting them as health professionals. As is traditional, several students were distinguished with the Gold Title Award, the Scientific Merit Award and recognitions granted to members of the Mario Muñoz Monroy Movement, as well as to those who demonstrated an exemplary record during their years of study.

The highest political and governmental authorities also joined in congratulating the new physicians, among them Ana María Mari Machado, Vice President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State, and a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

Among the graduates from Morón are 62 new doctors, as well as graduates in Stomatology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing and Higher Technical Certificates in Occupational Therapy.

There, the students with the best academic results were also distinguished, receiving Gold Title Awards, in addition to recognition for the most outstanding by specialty. The condition of Integral Graduate of the Faculty was awarded to Antonio Alejandro Rodríguez.

The Forty-Sixth Graduation of health professionals in Morón was attended by Yuslaivys Borges, a member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party, along with municipal authorities, health directors, professors, relatives and friends who accompanied the young people in their first major professional triumph.
