Morón Sugar Museum treasures a rich history

The museum of the sugar agro-industry is a privileged place in the People’s Council of Patria, in the municipality of Morón, where the particularities of an economic activity that means more than tradition and culture are preserved.

It has become one of the most original extra-hotel attractions for visitors arriving at the Jardines del Rey tourist destination, allowing them to get to know a culture that for several centuries has formed part of the identity of the Cuban people.

The genesis of this installation is framed within the framework of the closure of a certain number of sugar mills in the country, after which the National Directorate of Heritage decided to take advantage of the installed capacities in order to make known the history of the sugar agro-industry.

In this way, museums of this type were set up near tourist destinations such as Varadero, Cayo Santa María, Trinidad and Jardines de Rey, which contribute with their work to researching and safeguarding the historical and cultural heritage of the Cuban people and are offered to travellers arriving at these facilities from different parts of the world.
