Former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, of the Socialist Party, today ruled out standing as a candidate for the Palacio de La Moneda next November and pledged her support for whoever is appointed to represent that sector.
In a statement published by her foundation Horizonte Ciudadano, Bachelet said she was convinced that now it should be others who take up the challenge.
The former president (2006-2010 and 2014-2018) considered that there are very valuable and qualified people in progressivism who will know how to defend the demands of the Chilean people.
Bachelet called for the unity of the forces of transformation, in difficult times when populism and authoritarianism are growing and threatening democracy, she said.
