The Master of Science Mayda Pérez García, received this week the Replica of the Machete of Colonel Simón Reyes Hernández, the main distinction awarded by the Government of the province of Ciego de Ávila.

The award was made at the provincial ceremony for Science Day, held last Monday in the theatre of the Provincial Party Committee in the Avilanian capital.

Mayda Pérez Gracía is director of the Provincial Historical Archive and professor at the Máximo Gómez Báez University, institutions in which she carries out notable research work and the preservation and dissemination of the history of the territory.

The Replica of the Machete of Colonel Simón Reyes Hernández is awarded to personalities from Avila who stand out in scientific, cultural, sporting and social activities.
