Majagua Beekeepers Fulfil Annual Plan for Honey and Hive-Derived Products

With approximately 1200 hives and two queen bee breeding operations, the beekeepers of Majagua stand out in Ciego de Ávila for their high yields in the production of honey and its derivatives.

The systematic work of the producers allowed the Avilanian southwest to conclude the 2025 season with a collection of 47.95 tonnes of honey, a figure which not only permitted the fulfilment of the technical-economic plan, but also contributed to the national economy, as it is one of the principal exportable items.

Added to this result is the overfulfilment in the production of wax (900 kg), propolis (42 kg) and pollen (32 kg). Furthermore, 4 kilograms of royal jelly were supplied to the national industry, an indispensable input for biopharmaceutical development.

Another indicator that distinguished Majaguan apiculture was the production of queen bees. Thanks to the efficient work of the «El Milagro» Reproduction Centre, the municipality supplied nearly two thousand honeybee queens—against a plan of nine hundred—which will guarantee the increase of hives on Avilanian soil.

With a significant contribution to the territorial plan, the brigade led by the beekeeper Oneido Gómez Farias stood out, delivering approximately 46.1 tonnes of honey and other hive products, which are in high demand on the international market and have shown notable results in the import substitution programme.

It should be noted that, although the production in the Avilanian southwest this year did not reach the levels of previous periods—due to the scarcity of essential inputs for work in the apiaries—the sector is overcoming the difficulties. Among the goals for 2026 are overfulfilment of the honey and derivatives plan, as well as the implementation of training sessions on hive management, disease prevention and increasing nectar-producing flora.

Majagua has 13 beekeeping producers. Among the short-term projections are increasing the production of pollen and royal jelly, as well as the export of wax and queen bees.
