Jardines del Rey hosts one of the principal faunal reservoirs

The Jardines del Rey tourist destination constitutes one of the most prominent reservoirs of fauna in the country, by grouping large islets with the capacity for abundant plant formations and the feeding of numerous animals.

Recognised for the beauty of its beaches and hotel facilities, within the demarcation is located the Centro y Oeste Ecological Reserve of Cayo Coco, a protected area of national significance and among the most extensive in the nation, with over 36,000 hectares.

Land molluscs, birds and reptiles determine the relevance of this prioritised ecosystem, where the bat and the conga hutia, the green woodpecker and the contunto sijú stand out as the most significant species.

Also notable is the second largest population of flamingos and one of the three of cabrerito de la ciénaga identified in the national geography, as well as the presence of the Metachroma and Longitarsus sp. beetles.
