Invasive alien species management and monitoring workshop held in Ciego de Avila

A workshop entitled «Basic knowledge for the control, management and monitoring of invasive alien species» was held at the intervention site in Ciego de Avila, coordinated by the Sustainable Tourism Project.

The Centro de Investigaciones de Ecosistemas Costeros de Cayo Coco sponsored the scientific event, which included theoretical activities and a practical class.

Professors Rafael Borroto Páez, from the Institute of Tropical Geography and Ecology, and Ramona Oviedo Prieto, from the Institute of Systematics of Cuba, gave the lectures.

Dr. Borroto Páez is a noted biologist specialising in invasive species and Dr. Ramona Oviedo is a botanist and agronomist who won this year’s Cuban Flora Conservation Award.
