The national event for the 87th anniversary of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC), on 28 January at 10:00 a.m., will be held at the emblematic Empresa Agropecuaria La Cuba, in Ciego de Ávila, the province designated the host for this proletarian date by the Organising Commission of the organisation’s 22nd Congress in recognition of its comprehensive and stable work in the principal emulative indicators.

It will be preceded that day by a day of voluntary and productive work called Latir 87 in areas of the enterprise itself, considered among those with the best productive results within the agricultural sector in Cuba.

The activity will also be dedicated to evoking the 173rd anniversary of the birth of our National Hero José Martí, in whose universal thought the indispensable role of agriculture for the peoples of Our America had a place.

The Congress’s Organising Commission also informed that simultaneously, in Havana, the Apostle will be honoured with the laying of a floral wreath before the statue located in Central Park, while at the Centro Cultural Palacio de Torcedores the colloquium «Martí and the workers, legacy of Lázaro Peña 87 years after the founding of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba» will take place.

A political-cultural gala entitled «For Cuba, Together We Create», starring local artists and with a stage planned at the refurbished Teatro Principal in the city of Ciego de Ávila, will culminate the national activities for the birthday of Cuba’s central trade union.

The programme conceived by the Organising Commission of the CTC’s 22nd Congress to commemorate the anniversary includes, among other activities, a tribute this Thursday to the sugar union leader and communist militant Jesús Menéndez Larrondo, at the Manzanillo railway terminal, where he was assassinated by a hitman 78 years ago.

Also the celebration next 25 January of the Day of the Food Industry Worker, whose national event will be held at the Empresa Cárnica in Sancti Spíritus.

This coming Saturday and Sunday, with the greatest possible rationality in the use of resources, a national day of voluntary and productive work will take place in all municipalities of the country, with emphasis on food production in gardens, organopónicos and semi-protected cultivation facilities located in urban and suburban zones.
