Illegal satellite communications equipment prevented from entering the country

The General Customs of the Republic (AGR) aborted the illegal entry into the country of 20 pieces of satellite communications equipment to access the STARLINK internet network, which arrived by flight from the United States through Havana’s José Martí International Airport.

William Pérez González, first deputy chief of the AGR, said in his account on the social network X that, in violation of the regulations and norms in force in the country, an attempt was made to introduce these devices onto the island, an action thwarted by the agency’s agents.

He also emphasised that the AGR complies in this section with the regulations established by the Ministry of Communications for the entry into the country of telecommunications equipment and, in the event of violations of the provisions, the corresponding strict measures established by law are applied.

Relevant authorities recently warned about some violations of this type identified in the country, such as the use of antennas and signal repeaters that have been illegally imported and marketed to improve coverage in restricted areas, which not only has a negative impact on the quality of communication services but also undermines the sovereignty of the radioelectric spectrum.
