Everything ready in Ciego de Ávila for XXII Piña Colada

The first international meeting of history, culture and traditions «El Águila de la Trocha» is one of the novel proposals of the 22nd edition of the Piña Colada Festival, which will take place from 1 to 6 April in the province of Ciego de Ávila.

This meeting, which is part of the festival, will be held in the municipality of Morón, located in the north of the province, and will feature artists and groups representing traditional popular culture, to showcase the vast cultural and historical wealth of the territory, said the popular composer, performer and music producer Arnaldo Rodríguez, also president of the Festival, to the Cuban News Agency.

Under the slogan «Culture, tradition and modernity», this new edition will be celebrating the birthdays of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) and the José Martí Pioneers Organisation (OPJM), as well as the 150th anniversary of the first crossing of the Trocha de Júcaro to Morón by Mambi troops under the command of Máximo Gómez.

During the event’s press conference, which took place today at Casa Mambo, «El mulato acelera ‘o» – as the group’s leader Arnaldo y su Talismán is also known in Cuba – said that tributes to the musicians Jesús Lacerda and Severino Wilson will be part of Piña 2025.

Among the main activities of the festival, he added, are the Music and Youth Symposium, the Fusion, Alternative and Contemporary Music Concert Day, the popular festival of the Piña, the meeting of vocal groups Coravila (II Edition), as well as «Latir Avileño» (The Avileño Beat). Cultural Crusade for communities, student, productive and social interest centres and much more.

According to Rodríguez, president of the Piña Colada Festival and director of Mambo Producciones Artísticas, 100 artistic units are expected to participate, including soloists, groups, dance ensembles, artistic directors and presenters.

In addition, he added, approximately 70 percent of the artistic talent will be from the territory, represented by the ECME Musicávila catalogue, which will be joined by an estimated 20 groups and soloists from various provinces, such as Pinar del Rio, Havana, Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus, Camagüey, Las Tunas and Guantánamo.

Artists from Argentina, Mexico, Surinam, Colombia, Burundi, Palestine, Syria, Kenya and South Africa will be participating in this 22nd edition of the Piña Colada, showing expressions of the traditional culture of their peoples.

Organised by the Dirección Provincial de Cultura Ciego de Ávila, the Dirección de Cultura Municipio Morón and the Agencia Musicuba de la EGREM, the renowned Piña Colada is sponsored and organised by the Empresa de la Música y los Espectáculos Musicávila, Artex, Uneac, the Asociación Hermanos Saiz, the company Mambo S.R.L among other Cuban organisations and institutions.
