On a working visit to the province, Esteban Lazio Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State, headed an extraordinary session of the Provincial Council where the agreement was ratified for the local government to render an account of its management before the national Parliament in December 2025.

The maximum parliamentary leader also held a fruitful exchange with workers of the La Cuba Agricultural Enterprise, where he noted salary and productive improvements, as well as the link with the community.

“The salary that the men of the state enterprise and the cooperative member have today is almost on par. Here that is around one thousand pesos daily,” explained the director of La Cuba, Ariel Nieves Concepción, highlighting that a direct worker, whether from the state enterprise or the cooperative, receives income in that order, eliminating competition for labour.

The managers of La Cuba explained to Esteban Lazio their cultivation systems, which include the intercropping of fruit trees such as lemon and plantain with beans, in addition to having 150 hectares of traditional plantain in a permanent system.

Lazio Hernández showed special interest in the social role of the enterprise in the territory. La Cuba maintains a strong link with local institutions, supplying agricultural products weekly to the sales points of the six markets in the territory, guaranteeing their stable presence two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday) and in popular councils such as Gaspar.

Furthermore, the enterprise is a sponsor of schools and social centres. Its workers have carried out important works of social impact, among which stand out the repair and support for the “Paquito González” children’s home, as well as housing, with more than five delivered in the year and strong action in roof replacement.

La Cuba also stands out for the construction of an aqueduct in the community of Los González, a historical yearning of its inhabitants, including the repair and painting of schools.

In the Popular Council of Pesquería, which has 11 communities and 12 schools, the enterprise supported maintenance work for the start of the school year.

Esteban Lazio Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State also visited the La Cuba market (better known as El Hueco), where the Baraguá emporium daily guarantees the supply of viands, fruits and other agricultural products at more affordable prices for the population.
