Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State, inaugurated today at the National Capitol the activities for Africa Day, which will be celebrated on 25 May.
During the emotional meeting, Lazo highlighted the deep ties that unite Cuba with the African continent, describing them as indestructible, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website.
The head of the Cuban Parliament recalled the legacy of solidarity between Cuba and Africa, from the independence struggles against colonialism to current cooperation.
«The most just causes in Africa have always counted on the firm support of Cuba,» said Lazo, who also expressed his gratitude for the African support against the US blockade.
The Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea, Mariano Ebang Ebang Anguesomo, representing the African Diplomatic Corps, thanked Cuba for its gesture.
On the day, Dr. José Luis Toledo Santander, President of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Commission of the Cuban Parliament, gave a lecture on the institutional organisation of the State and the Cuban legislative process.
The vice-president of the Parliament, Ana María Mari Machado; the ambassador of the Congo and diplomatic dean, Rosalie Kama-Niamayogua; as well as other Cuban officials and members of the African diplomatic corps participated in the meeting.
