Donation Enriches Documentary Heritage in Ciego de Ávila

The Brigadier José Ambrosio Gómez Cardoso Provincial Historical Archive of Ciego de Ávila enriched its documentary heritage upon receiving a donation of the Complete Works of José Martí and texts of a legal nature, such as the constitutions in force during different stages of the Cuban revolutionary process.

Yamir Rivero Zamora, director of the aforementioned institution, appreciated the incalculable value of that gesture and explained that the donated documentary funds are available to the public for study and research activities.

The handover urges the continuation of the recovery of personal documents of Carlos Ramírez Ruiz, a prestigious and late Avilanian jurist, whose daughter expressed satisfaction with this handover for facilitating the study, research and dissemination of history and the legal order in Cuba.

Rivero Zamora stated that the donation is an incentive to continue safeguarding the legacy of the prominent jurist, which will satisfy the yearning of researchers and expand the first documentary fund of a legal nature in the Avilanian territory.

Beatriz Ramírez, donor of the materials that belonged to her father, received thanks from the workers of the Provincial Historical Archive and expressed satisfaction for her family’s contribution to the local and national documentary heritage.

Carlos Ramírez Ruiz was the first provincial director of Justice in Ciego de Ávila, he also served in the local Court System and, after retiring, continued contributing by serving as Secretary of the Government Council of the Provincial People’s Court.

The collection of the Complete Works of José Martí equally represents a contribution of exceptional value for the library funds of the Historical Archive.

The one recognised as National Hero of Cuba was a crucial intellectual and political figure of the 19th century in Cuba, included among the most influential thinkers of Latin America, therefore his texts are irreplaceable primary sources for studying the independence process, anti-imperialism and Latin American unity.
