President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed today that the Cuban Government maintains priority attention on the critical situation of the electrical generation system, especially in the eastern region, where a gradual restoration of the service is progressing.
In a message published on social networks, the head of state highlighted the sustained effort of the workers of the Electrical Union, whom he thanked for their work.
“Returning to #Cuba we continue to closely follow the critical situation with electrical generation and the gradual restoration of the service in the eastern region, thanks to the workers of the Electrical Union,” wrote the president on X, adding that “the issue has been a priority in all our dialogues during the tour of Asia.”
The previous day, a fault on a 220 kV line caused the disconnection of the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) from the province of Las Tunas to Guantánamo, in the eastern part of the Caribbean country.
According to reports from the Ministry of Energy and Mines on social networks, at 1:25 this early morning (local time) the electrical system was successfully restored in the affected territories.
The Director of Electricity of the ministry, Lázaro Guerra, explained to national television that the disconnection of the SEN was produced by adverse meteorological conditions in the area.
Cuba is immersed in a strategy for electroenergetic recovery, which has among its key elements achieving energy sovereignty in the shortest time possible, with the objective of satisfying the needs of the population and the economy, rehabilitating the networks, seeking solutions for the emergency power generator groups and advancing in the energy transition.
