Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, carried out today an intensive schedule of bilateral contacts and participation in multilateral events, as part of the activities of the High-Level Segment of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly
Through his X account, the Foreign Minister recounted the key moments of his day, which included meetings with counterparts from various nations and a firm defence of the rights of developing countries in the face of the climate crisis
Rodríguez Parrilla highlighted his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Yván Gil, to whom he reaffirmed Cuba’s permanent solidarity with the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution, its President Nicolás Maduro, and the Civic-Military Union in the face of imperialist threats
In the regional sphere, the head of Cuban diplomacy thanked the Foreign Minister of Panama, Javier Martínez, for the productive meeting held and expressed Cuba’s willingness to continue deepening bilateral relations
He also met with Sean Sobers, Foreign Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, to promote bilateral ties
During his participation in a Special Event on Climate, the Cuban foreign minister was emphatic in demanding that industrialised countries pay their ecological debt and fulfil their obligations by virtue of their historical responsibilities, insisting that they provide financial resources and technologies for effective climate action
At the 49th Ministerial Meeting of the G77 plus China, Rodríguez Parrilla called for continuing to preserve the Group’s unity, underlining that active participation in this year’s negotiations requires concerted and decisive action to advance the common positions of developing countries
The Foreign Minister’s bilateral agenda included a meeting with the Ibero-American Secretary General, Andrés Allamand, to whom he reiterated Cuba’s disposition to continue supporting his efforts and expressed the importance the Island attaches to the Ibero-American Conference, whose cooperation programmes and projects have reported benefits to its members
One of the highlighted moments was the fruitful meeting with Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of Russia
Rodríguez Parrilla highlighted Cuba’s positive view of the results of the consensus reached between the presidents of both countries, which should contribute to further developing multifaceted bilateral links
He also held a meeting with Osman Saleh Mohammed, Foreign Minister of Eritrea, where the existing ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries were highlighted
These exchanges took place on a day when support for Cuba resonated strongly in the UN General Debate. Heads of State from Brazil, Suriname, South Africa, Mozambique, Vietnam, Angola, Colombia, and Nauru, among others, condemned the US economic blockade against the Island and demanded its immediate lifting, thus ratifying international solidarity with the Cuban people
The Cuban delegation accompanying the Foreign Minister is composed of the Vice Ministers Carlos Fernández de Cossío and Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo; the Permanent Representative to the UN, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán; and the Ambassador to the United States, Lianys Torres Rivera.
