A strategic exercise of prevention and confrontation of drugs began today in the central Cuban province of Villa Clara with the aim of creating attitudes of rejection of this social scourge among adolescents and young people.

The process will be extended until 21 March in the territory’s educational institutions, according to Hernadith Asley Curbelo, deputy provincial director of education, as she explained to the press.

She added that the actions contribute to the development of attitudes of rejection of drugs, psychotropic substances and substances with similar effects and will be developed in both urban and rural areas.

The event stands out for the participation of students, teachers and also the family,» Curbelo emphasised.

For her part, Malia Hernández, a student from the Mariano Clemente Prado pre-university group in this city in the centre of the country, was the winner at the centre level of the competition on confronting drugs.

Her classmate, Edgar Monteagudo, showed himself to be a young person aware of the harmful effects of drug use.

«I urge all adolescents to prevent the spread of this scourge that destroys the home, the family and individuals,» said Monteagudo.
