The Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialised in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics celebrates today its twentieth anniversary of unconditional dedication to health and life in the most needy corners of the planet.
Doctor José Ángel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health of Cuba, expressed on social media X: “The Henry Reeve contingent celebrates a new anniversary this Friday: it is 20 years of unconditional commitment to health and life”.
Furthermore, he extended congratulations from the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (MINSAP) to those who make the dream of Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) a reality and defend the essence of Cuban Public Health across the world.
Official data from MINSAP confirms that the Henry Reeve Contingent was founded on 19 September 2005 on the initiative of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and is a symbol of Cuban medical internationalism, providing assistance in more than 40 countries affected by natural disasters, epidemics, and health crises.
In these 20 years, the source reaffirms, its members have been the protagonists of some of the greatest humanitarian epics in defence of life, such as confronting Ebola in West Africa, providing aid after earthquakes in Pakistan and Haiti, and offering support during the COVID-19 pandemic in various regions of the world.
