Cuba and Namibia Strengthen Their Bilateral Cooperation Relations

Representatives of Cuba and the Republic of Namibia signed four documents on Wednesday, in this capital, that consolidate cooperation relations, during the closing of the I Session of the Intergovernmental Commission between both countries.

The signed agreements were the protocol of the I Session of the Intergovernmental Commission, the partnership for the exchange of information, mutual recognition and development of projects between the Medicines Regulatory Council of the Ministry of Health and Social Services of Namibia and the Centre for State Control of Medicines and Medical Devices of Cuba.

Also endorsed were the action plan of the report signed between the University of Computer Sciences (UCI) and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), and the agreement between the company Cubadeportes S.A. and the Ministry of Education, Sport, Youth, Arts and Culture of the African state for the contracting of high-level coaches in different disciplines.

Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, Minister of Foreign Trade (Mincex), expressed that these resolutions symbolise the decision of both governments and peoples to work together with solidarity and respect.

He highlighted that during the meetings solid foundations were established with a view to sustainable collaboration, and concrete opportunities aimed at increasing commercial exchange and contributing to the socioeconomic development of the two nations were identified.

Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, head of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia, stated that these days of conversations have been a conquest for both delegations, and argued that the intention to continue the legacy of the Namibian leader Sam Nujoma and the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz was reflected.

She specified that from this moment the most important thing is to put into practice all the ideas that arose in the meeting and for the results to be evident in the people.

During the holding of four subcommissions dedicated to construction, health, biotechnology, and sport, 23 partnership strategies were approved, which will drive activity in various sectors.

The I Session of the Cuba-Namibia Intergovernmental Commission is the result of a memorandum of understanding certified in 2024 and was held from 29 September to 1 October.

The next meeting is scheduled to take place in the African country in 2027.

Other representatives from Mincex and national bodies, as well as members of the team accompanying the head of International Relations and Cooperation, participated in the closing session.
