An 83 percent viability rate and the delivery of 60 tons of meat are among the results obtained in chicken breeding after applying the cooperative system of production by the Monte los Rusos agricultural and livestock labour collective in the municipality of Majagua.
On this basis, the established contributions of 80% for the producer based in the same territory and 20% for the poultry company in the province of Ciego de Avila were fulfilled, while the income from payment by results for the 20 men and women who make up the union was rated as satisfactory.
According to Lisbeth Martínez Felipe, director of the centre, «agricultural labour» means a formal grouping of workers organised in a cost centre of a state entity to carry out a specific production in which they are responsible for the raw materials and infrastructure, but which does not constitute an independent economic entity.
After having achieved more than 29,000 birds whose average weight exceeded 2 kilograms from the first 34,900 chicks received just over 40 days ago, the staff working here is currently keeping the centre in sanitary habilitation with a view to the start of the new stage of rearing, which is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of July.
