The social, familial, and legal consequences of drug use, as well as the strategies implemented by the country to confront the phenomenon, were presented in a conference at the Olga Alonso hall-theatre of the Haydée Santamaría Cultural House, in the Avilanian city of Morón, before a sizeable audience.
At the event, Lieutenant Colonel Arturo Castellanos Morales, provincial head of the Anti-Drug section in Ciego de Ávila, highlighted the importance of education and community vigilance as fundamental pillars in prevention, and warned about the increasingly sophisticated methods used by criminal networks to introduce illicit substances.
The conference made it clear that, although Cuba maintains a firm policy against drugs, public awareness and citizen commitment are essential to preserve the health and wellbeing of new generations.
The highest authorities of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Government in the territory were present, as well as a significant participation of primary and basic secondary school students and guests from various branches and sectors. (Author: Ricardo Varona Yedra-News Desk)
