Commemorated in Cuba the Triumphant Entry of the Rebels into Havana

The 67th anniversary of the arrival of the Rebel Army in this capital, after defeating the hordes of the dictator Fulgencio Batista and with Fidel Castro in command, is a cause for celebration today in Cuba.

The arrival in the principal city of the Bearded Ones, as the guerrillas were called, certified the triumph of the liberation movement on the first of January 1959, amidst political manoeuvres to snatch victory from them.

This historic event will be commemorated in various locations across the capital’s geography by the people, in particular the young participants of the Freedom Caravan, who have already traversed more than a thousand kilometres of the island, from the eastern province Santiago de Cuba.

During the journey, they participated in tributes to the heroes and martyrs of the liberating struggle and conversed with the population about the importance of that journey, as Fidel did in January 1959.

This time, moreover, they have condemned the attack by United States military forces on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro, which among other victims caused the death of 32 Cuban combatants.

Usually, in Havana the first stop of the Caravan is in Cotorro and, after travelling, it will be placed after arriving at other municipalities, it concludes at Ciudad Escolar Libertad, a scientific pedagogical complex in the Marianao municipality which before the Revolution was the Columbia military barracks. There the triumphal passage concluded and Cuba began a path as or more complex than the one the rebels trod.
