CINAREM: academic space for scientific growth

The 11th Earth Sciences Convention brings academic projects such as the International Conference on Mineral Resources Development at the University of Moa, which promotes knowledge about mineral resources.

In an exclusive interview with the Cuban News Agency, Genia Batista Estupiñán, director of international relations at the university, said that CINAREM is held every two years and brings together specialists in the field of mineral resources.

Batista Estupiñán pointed out that this event has five workshops that address various topics from the world of geology, mining, metallurgy and, above all, the sustainable development of mining communities.

He also stated that this initiative is a space in which many specialists promote not only the teaching of geology, mining and metallurgy, but also defend the commitment to care for the environment.

CINAREM is a magnificent opportunity to exchange work experiences, to promote and socialise the knowledge that is generated from the university with updated lines such as the use of artificial intelligence in mining and represents an opportune moment to promote the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of this centre of studies, a leader in the teaching of mining, geology and metallurgy, she added.

The specialist explained that the participation of this university in Geosciences 2025 is an opportunity to present many research projects that have been carried out from the territory, especially experiences in projects aimed at both the exploitation of mineral resources and geo-tourism and innovative mining practices with a view to sustainability.

Batista Estupiñán said that this convention allows the development of bilateral relations with other national and international institutions.

He added that the presence of students allows for better training based on the exchange with professionals with greater expertise in the topics addressed by the eleventh edition of this international meeting.

The 11th Earth Sciences Convention, which is being held at the Havana Convention Palace until 11 April, is an invitation to think about the way forward for geosciences through the participation of different institutions and specialists in these areas.
