The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) has called for nominations for its 2025 Student Researcher, Young Researcher, and Young Technologist Awards. This edition honours the anniversaries of the Young Communists League and the José Martí Pioneer Organisation, founded in 1962 and 1977, respectively.

This new edition targets high-achieving students within the curricular dimension of higher education (degree programmes and short-cycle programmes), as well as university graduates up to 35 years of age distinguished by their link to science, technology, and innovation activities.

No candidate may self-nominate personally. Instead, their institutions are obliged to promote proposals for their best candidates. Previous award winners may not be nominated, though those who received honourable mentions may.

A Prize Committee, headed by CITMA, is responsible for analysis, selection, and awarding.

The committee comprises representatives from the Cuban Academy of Sciences, the Youth Technical Brigades, the National Union of Workers in Education, Science, and Sport, the Young Communists League, the Ministries of Higher Education, Education, Public Health, Agriculture, and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation.

Awards will only be granted in the areas of knowledge of Pedagogical Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Medical Sciences, Physical Culture and Sports, Technical Sciences, Computing and Informatics, Agricultural Sciences, and Natural and Exact Sciences.

Dossiers must be submitted in printed or electronic format to the Directorate of Scientific and Technological Potential, General Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation, CITMA, located at Calle Línea No. 8, between N and O, El Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución municipality.

The deadline is the upcoming 23rd December.

The 2024 winners received their awards during the opening ceremony of the XV International Convention on Environment and Development earlier this month.
