Avispas and Leones advance in Elite Cuban Baseball League

The Santiago team beat Granma 9×3 and the Havana team defeated Pinar del Río 5×3.

Avispas santiagueras and Leones from Santiago, as hosts, won their respective games today and improved their positions in the III Elite League of Cuban Baseball, which began its sixth particular sub-series.

At the Guillermón Moncada stadium, Santiago de Cuba went on a batting spree and did not stop until they hit 14 hits to beat Alazanes de Granma 9×3.

The third bat and starter Yoel Yanki, who went 5-4, with a double, home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Also contributing to the Avispas’ cause was the front man in the line-up, Francisco Martínez, who went 5-4 and scored twice.

Right-hander Osvaldo Acuña pitched well and earned his third win of the tournament, while César García took his third loss. The Alazanes committed a whopping four errors.

And at the Parque Latinoamericano, Industriales beat Pinar del Río 5×3, with good pitching combined by their relievers Fernando Betanzo and the supersonic Armando Dueñas.

Betanzo threw 4.1 innings with just one hit allowed, while Dueñas pitched two unblemished innings to earn his fourth save and equal the lead with José Ángel García of Pinar del Río.

On the offensive for the Leones, Yosvani Peñalver, who had three hits in as many appearances at the plate, was outstanding.
After these results, Ciego de Avila (13-7) leads, and will rest in this sub-series due to the presence of runner-up Las Tunas (10-6) in the Champions League, based in Mexico.

Behind them are Santiago de Cuba (11-10) and Industriales (10-11), Pinar del Río (9-12) and Granma (5-12).
