Guarantor of sustainable development in the Jardines del Rey tourist destination, the Coastal Ecosystems Research Centre (CIEC) consolidates its role as a scientific institution supporting environmentally responsible management across hotels, non-hotel facilities, and support services within this priority sector of the national economy.
Coinciding with the selection of Avilanian territory to host central activities for 26th July – National Rebellion Day – Claudia María Hernández, CIEC’s Institutional Communications Officer, reiterated to the Cuban News Agency the centre’s commitment to continue supporting progress in a sector whose contributions underpinned the province’s selection.
Liset Hernández Gálvez, CIEC’s Deputy Scientific Director, highlighted the provision of state and commercial scientific-technical services, alongside environmental monitoring programmes, advisory support, training initiatives, and surveillance of ecosystems where tourism activities occur.
Their service portfolio includes the Rationale for National Environmental Recognition of Tourist Beaches, involving assessment of beach conditions and recommendations for best practices that preserve beaches as Jardines del Rey’s flagship tourism product.
«During investment phases, we conduct environmental impact studies,» emphasised Maikel Gómez Colina, CIEC Director. This scientific centre was established on the initiative of historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, precisely to ensure sustainable tourism development while advancing environmental conservation research.
