Excessive speed and loss of vehicle control caused the mass accident that occurred last Sunday in the Avilanian municipality of Majagua, according to expert assessments at the scene.
Lieutenant Colonel Niurka Valdés Figueroa, Head of Criminal Investigation for MININT in the province, stated that the driver of the Renault truck (license plate B 236 623) exceeded the speed limit. Medical tests conducted after the accident confirmed the driver had not consumed alcohol.
However, testimonies gathered by Granma from several survivors revealed the driver ignored passenger warnings demanding he reduce speed minutes before the rollover.
As of this update, 16 patients remain hospitalised – four in critical condition and two in serious condition.
