Assembly Work Advances at Majagua Solar Photovoltaic Park

The construction of a 5-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic park (PV) in the municipality of Majagua highlights the diversification of the energy matrix in Ciego de Ávila province and the efforts to strengthen the country’s electrical infrastructure.

Located approximately 600 metres from the municipal headquarters’ electrical substation, the installation will feature 9,048 solar panels and two 2.5 MW inverters, which will inject 5 MW of clean energy into the National Electroenergetic System (SEN).

The project, initiated several months ago, has experienced accelerated progress in recent weeks due to the arrival of a significant contingent of material resources, the reinforcement of workforces from the Military Construction Union (UCM) and a water resources brigade from Villa Clara.

Thanks to the effort of these workers—mostly young—the drilling of the holes for the casting of over four thousand piles to support the structures has been completed. Likewise, the finishing of the inverter bases and the protection cabins for the installation is advancing.

According to Daniel Carrasco Camejo, provincial investments director for the Electrical Enterprise, the project consists of 348 tables with twenty-six solar panels each. As an innovation, it features the incorporation of cutting-edge technology: an energy storage system.

«This is the country’s first PV park being built with the support of 1 MW of storage, which will allow for guaranteeing a better electricity supply to the population of Majagua, as well as to the prioritised economic sectors and services in this territory,» he explained.

The Majagua solar park is the ninth renewable energy generation project being executed in Ciego de Ávila. Once connected, together with those already existing in the province, it will contribute a total of 110 MW of clean and environmentally friendly energy to the SEN.
