Since 5th July the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) of Ciego de Ávila began the Always Young Summer 2025 in its House of the Young Creator, and managed to largely fulfil its work objectives for that summer period.
According to the words of Dry Chamorro, vice-president of the organisation, at the end of June they were hoping to have a summer as the artistic membership and the Avilanian people deserve. And that objective was met, although they are not entirely satisfied.
It has not ceased to be a challenge to attract the members of the AHS to conduct organic life from their ranks, but it was achieved that, at least, several associates represented their sections and that the programmed activities did not fall into an existential void.
Over the two months, more than 23 activities were carried out dynamically and with displays of good taste and a communicative sense. Making a show, for this, of the work on social networks and dissemination in the spaces of traditional media.
To the same extent, the mass attendance of the public at activities inside the Café Barquito and in the patio of the House was missed, where activities such as the electronic music gathering of the Lux project did not achieve the necessary public presence as on other occasions.
Nonetheless, the music, literature and theatre sections were the most outstanding by remaining in almost everything programmed in the House of the Young Creator and giving life to their gatherings, recitals and community activities.
July was the most special month of this summer, as the commemorative date filled everything with a different flavour.
With the arrival from the capital of a brigade of young creators, among which was part of the national leadership of the AHS like Yasel Toledo and Santa Massiel Rueda, among other musicians, rappers, journalists and writers, different communities of the Avilanian geography were visited such as the Rivas Fraga neighbourhood, Los Ángeles, and the Sugarcane Massif in the southern part of the province. Furthermore, collaboration was provided in the first remodelling phase of the Principal theatre.
These artists were also part of the artistic-cultural gala that was celebrated in the coliseum on the eve of 26th July, alongside many other artists of the AHS.
The Café Barquito cultural complex continued to be the obligatory space for the most intimate gatherings and concerts. In that manner, poetic and narrative readings in memory of Félix Sánchez were held with total acceptance by writers of dissimilar generations like Carmen Hernández Peña (Honorary Member), Eduardo Pino, Liuma, Yaima Hernández, Leidy Vidal, Mayda Batista, Yamila Ferras, Yasmani Rodríguez, Vasily MP and other authors.
Likewise, it was the suitable place for the concerts of Daiver Mirabal, Oristela Pérez, Héctor Luis, Deborah, Daniel Hernández and Alexander Santiesteban. Although in this place it continues to be necessary to take measures aimed at audience development.
The Audiovisual section also had its good moments with the screening of some materials both of music and by the Cuban documentary maker.
A good part of the workshops programmed for young people were successfully imparted, such as the one on radio production with Michel Pérez Abreu and the one on acting with the Polichinela puppet theatre in its own Abdala room headquarters.
Without a doubt, the barbers’ expo in the month of July was one of the also attractive and high-impact options, as well as the participatory and radio-style space A viva voz, led by Dry Chamorro.
The Por qué luchamos event was carried out until 13th August, a date that commemorates another anniversary of the assassination of Luis and Sergio Saíz Montes de Oca, and the 99th birthday of Fidel Castro.
And within that framework, the visits to the Roberto Rodríguez pioneers camp in Majagua, and the ascent to Pico 28 de Enero in Florencia, marked an important milestone within this summer period. There the true spirit of unity and dedication to the art of the AHS in the city of portals was demonstrated.
