In addition to the anticipated cinematographic projections, the Festival proposes theoretical and exchange spaces associated with the industry, exhibitions and book presentations.
The International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, since its birth, has maintained a humanist and solidary vocation. That is why, in the run-up to the 46th edition – from 4th to 14th December –, its organisers made a call to the international community of filmmakers to support the recovery of the East of the country, recently affected by Hurricane Melissa.
At a press conference held yesterday Tuesday, it was also announced that, although it is usual for the event to reach other territories of the country, this time it will do so with a manifest intention to the provinces that are recovering, through mobile cinema projections and other proposals.
«Rolling cinema – this year’s slogan – is not just a phrase, it implies moving, and doing so to all places where it is necessary,» affirmed the president of the Festival, Tania Delgado Fernández.
According to the explanation, the interest in participating in the Festival has not diminished, and the figures prove it: this year more than 2,000 works were registered, among films, posters and scripts. The official selection includes 222 works, 114 in competition and the rest in the usual sections; and 42 countries from different latitudes of the world are represented.
From Cuban cinematography, there will be 34 titles; a sample that Delgado Fernández qualified as «wide and varied,» as well as highlighting the quality of the presented animation projects.
Dedicated, among other relevant anniversaries, to the centenary of Alfredo Guevara, this edition proposes the third Latin American and Caribbean Animation Forum «Juan Padrón in memoriam»; a special programme from the BRICS countries, and a sample of films for the 80th anniversary of the Churubusco Studios.
This last Mexican entity will receive one of the Coral de Honor awards; and together with the Mexican Institute of Cinematography it will facilitate a tribute to the cinema of that nation, several of whose films will be shown on TV during those days.
Another of the relevant spaces of the event is the recovery of the Isla Abierta Latin American Film Market, which will bring together national and foreign producers.
Starting Monday 24th November, the passes to access the screenings will be available at the cinema box offices.
